AI will be accessible to almost everyone, from content creation to artificial general intelligence. As society evolves rapidly, what will be the role of humans?

Past technical shifts, such as the Industrial Revolution, Mass Production, and the Information Age (computers, smartphones, etc.) disrupted civilization.

While some fear that AI could cause the end of civilization, in the U.S. alone, we've faced numerous threats in recent history, including WWI, WWII, the Cuban Missile Crisis, potential escalation of the Vietnam War, and a pandemic.

That said, AI poses a significant existential risk. It's not blatantly dangerous but much more insidious and slow-moving.

To be clear, AI could help solve many complex and pervasive problems facing us today related to disease, longevity, climate, poverty, food scarcity, and more.

However, we also face a potentially flawed future of sedentary, disconnected, and unbearably empty lives like the characters in the film WALL-E.

How Does this Relate to Startups?

Most choices that startups and founders face aren't clear-cut. They often involve tradeoffs, such as when raising investment to grow results in less equity.

With AI's rise, we must ask: what could humanity lose in the tradeoff?

My upcoming four-part series on Humanity & AI will delve into the values derived from failure, connection, creativity, and purpose.

Each of these values enhances our quality of life. Allowing AI to undermine these values would cause significant problems.

However, society will be stronger if startups promote humanity and its values, using AI tools to magnify impact and efficiency.

Founders thrive by anticipating needs and building solutions. I hope some recognize the tradeoffs with AI and work to rebuild humanity.

Let's start this conversation.
