For many of us, summer moves at a different tempo.
Summer is supposed to be a time for relaxing and vacationing. But projects, people, and plans pile on, and life feels just as hectic as any other time of year.
A few smart, small shifts can give your schedule room to breathe and build anticipation for whatās ahead. These seven simple investments can yield outsized returns.
Ā
1. Unsubscribe from 10 lowāvalue emails
Remove yourself from 10 newsletters or alerts you donāt read. A simple test: are you excited to read this message, or are you dreading it? A few seconds instantly reduces daily noise and frees mental space for what matters.
Ā
2. Read one book aligned with your ideal self
Pick a topic you care about (habits, money, health, leadership, etc.) and commit to 5ā10 pages a day. Youāll be making a consistent investment in your future self.
Ā
3. Or read one book purely for fun
When life is full of āmustā and āshould,ā reading for pleasure can feel indulgent. It also gives your mind time to wander, potentially making new connections and thinking more creatively.
Ā
4. Add a 5āminute walk after one meal
After lunch or dinner, step outside for a short walk. This walk can double as time for a work call. Movement improves circulation, digestion, and mood, and it often becomes a natural gateway to longer workouts.
Ā
5. Plan a trip or fun activity
For me, thereās almost as much joy in planning as in the experience itself. Small steps toward a bigger adventure give you something to look forward to and offer a great way to share your excitement with others.
Ā
6. Send one short, genuine message daily
Each day, text or email a kind word to one person you care about, or let someone know you appreciate their work. It makes the world a little better and reliably lifts your mood, too.
Ā
7. Write down three things youāre grateful for
End the day by jotting down three specific things you appreciated: a conversation, a win, something that worked out better than expected. This practice trains you to notice the positives, improving mood, sleep, and resilience.
Ā
Ā
Pick one or two to start this week and give yourself at least four weeks to see whether you notice a positive difference.
